Author(s): Maitrayee Banerjee*
Abstract: Pregnancy is a natural process of growth and development and in this period many physiological changes occur including changes in body composition, inflammation, endocrine and metabolic changes. This period of life is driven by a series of immunological, hormonal, and metabolic changes that are essential for the normal fetal development and successful delivery. These various changes have distinct effects on microbiota which is altered accordingly. The microbial changes during pregnancy are likely co-ordinated with the immune, endocrine, and metabolic states.
