Abstract: Cancer is a group of diseases involving abnormal cell growth with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body. Nowadays research is being carried out for the development of new anticancer agents which selectively interfere with and inhibit tumour growth. Though there are a number of anticancer agents available in the market only few drugs are effective in the treatment of cancer. So, a proper selection procedure is required for the development of a lead compound as anticancer agent. Thus, Invitro drug screening is the starting point for the development of new antitumor agents. Through in – vitro screening it is possible to screen a number of compounds each day. This review summarizes the most popular in-vitro cell-based screening methods, which are used for evaluating the anti-cancer activity of newly evolved anti-cancer drugs.
